Jimmy Houston The Man, The Legacy
Whether on his television fishing show or in his Ranger boat during the Bass Angler Sportsman Society (BASS) tournament trail, Jimmy Houston is one angler who has placed great importance to the sport of family fishing fun and reeling in the biguns. Jimmy, a two time winner of the BASS Angler of the Year title, has proved himself as a top contender and crowd favorite on the BASS fishing tournament trail. He spends about 90 days a year on the water fishing competitively, but his consistency in BASS has made him a prominent angler. In fact, Jimmy has fished BASS longer than any of the contenders qualifying for todays classics. Having qualified for 15 Bassmaster Classics, Jimmy ranks 15th in the all time Angler of the Year standings and is 31st among the all time money winners. He has placed in the top ten position for 20% of his professional career entries and has won two BASS tournaments. He won his first professional tournament in 1966. Since that first victory he has won 10 national tournaments and has placed among the top money winners in more than 100 national fishing events. In 1990, Houston was inducted into the Fishing Hall of Fame, Hall of Legendary Anglers and original inductee into the Pro Bass Angler Association Hall of Fame, which is bestowed by the PBAA to tournament anglers. The famed Cookson Kid is well known on the BASS circuit for his fast casts and quick wit comments which are almost as fast as his underhand casts. Jimmys weigh in appearances on the tournament trail are well known especially with his now famous giggle. The spark of Jimmys career has been his television shows. Now airing on ESPN2 is Jimmy Houston Outdoors with over 73 million viewers. With all of Jimmys successes in juggling his fishing career, seminar engagements and his beloved family he has definitely earned the title of Americas Favorite Fisherman. |
