When it comes to talent and passion Dave Watson has been gifted with both.

Dave Watson is a singer, songwriter and host of the successful TNN television series, “Bushnell’s Secrets of the Hunt.” He spent eight years as part of the renown Oak Ridge Boys music group as their bass player as well as singing back up vocals. Dave is also an accomplished international bowhunter, which helped place him recently on the Archery Task Force led by Congressional leaders in Washington.

Considering such passion and talents, many would consider Dave a success by most measures. However, there is one means of measurement that is more important to him than how well his ambitious career is going; the success of this accomplishment is judged by a commitment to fatherhood rather than financial success as a television producer.

One of the most important aspects of Dave’s life was the promise he made to his son. Dave’s musical career kept him frequently on the road, but when his first son, Sam, was born, things began to change in Dave’s life. Dave said “I promised him I would be the world’s greatest dad, and that’s something I could not accomplish via the telephone. By the time Sam turned three, I realized a sacrifice would have to be made if I was going to keep my promise.”

True to his word, Dave resigned his position with the Oak Ridge Boys and started a new career with two goals in mind:
• Keeping his promise to his son
• Advocating outdoor sports which he so loved

With this drive and determination, Dave has made a solid commitment to educating future sportsmen about the outdoors and the sport of bow hunting through song, video and print media.

He has been the national spokesman for the Archery Shooters Association since 1998, and helps conduct seven national ASA kid’s shoots annually. “The major difference between the ASA Kid’s Shoot and other shoots are the children we target are the children of non-hunting parents,” Dave explains. “In other words we promote where the promotion is needed.” Dave feels that putting a bow in the hand of a child can change the future of hunting and also change the life of that child for the better.

Dave has used his talents and connections within the music industry to help various outdoor organizations. In February 1999, Dave combined the talents of Brooks & Dunn, Lorrie Morgan and Reba McIntyre to record his song “Africa” which was adopted as the theme for Safari Club International. He recently teamed up with Wayne Carlton (maker of Carlton Calls) to record a nine song CD titled, Wayne & Watson, “On the Wild Side” donating a portion of all proceeds to wildlife conservation groups.

During the Fall of 2000, Dave joined CSF leaders from across the nation on an Alaskan black bear hunt on Prince of Wales Island. The seven day unguided, free ranging hunt was difficult to say the least. The thick, heavy foliage of the temperate rain forest made stalking game most difficult even though over forty-five black bears were spotted by our five hunters. Dave Watson is a true role model for sportsmen everywhere. He has found ways to promote and preserve one of the sports for which he cares very deeply. He continually donates his time to passing on the tradition of archery to the leaders of tomorrow, our children. Yet with all this said, the focus in Dave’s life has not changed since he became true to his promise to his son, “To be the Best Father in the World.”
